Crooked Glasses, Perfect Grace

A few weeks ago, I walked into a meeting wearing the only pair of reading glasses I could find. And let me tell you, they had seen better days!
Somehow, they had gotten so bent out of shape that one side sat noticeably higher than the other. I looked completely lopsided! I even tried tucking one arm up into my hair instead of resting it on my ear, hoping that might straighten things out a little. It didn’t help much. If anything, I probably looked even more ridiculous!
But I wore them anyway. Why? Because as crooked and unattractive as those glasses were, they still did exactly what I needed them to do. They helped me see clearly to read.
Later, I found myself laughing about the whole thing, but it also got me thinking about how often we feel a little like those glasses.
We see our flaws, our weaknesses, and all the ways we don’t quite measure up. We compare ourselves to others who seem to have everything together, and sometimes we convince ourselves that God couldn’t possibly use someone as imperfect as we are.
But here’s the beautiful thing about God’s grace. He doesn’t require us to be perfectly put together before He can work through us.
Think about the people God used throughout Scripture. Moses struggled with speaking. Peter was impulsive and made mistakes. Paul openly acknowledged his weaknesses. Yet God worked powerfully through each of them. Sometimes, the very things we consider our shortcomings become opportunities for God’s strength to shine through.
Those crooked glasses weren’t winning any beauty contests, but they were still useful. And maybe that’s a little reminder for us, too. We don’t have to look perfect, feel perfect, or have every part of our lives perfectly aligned to make a difference.
God sees beyond our imperfections. He knows our hearts, understands our struggles, and equips us for whatever He calls us to do.
So the next time you feel a little bent out of shape by life, remember those crooked glasses. Laugh at yourself if you need to, lean into God’s grace, and keep moving forward. You don’t have to be perfect to be useful in God’s hands.
“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.’” — 2 Corinthians 12:9
