Easter at Our House: Full Tables & Full Hearts

It’s Easter weekend, and things have definitely kicked into high gear around here.

Many of you know that we host all of our family holiday gatherings at our house. Years ago, we renovated my in-laws’ old farmhouse homestead, and since my mother-in-law used to host, we’ve carried on the tradition. It’s something that means more to me with each passing year.

This Sunday after church, we’ll have around 35–40 family members gathered for a potluck lunch. It’s not exactly a plant-based crowd, but you can be sure I’ll have plenty of my favorite healthy dishes filling the table. My kitchen counters will be lined with food—more than enough to feed a small army!

For these big gatherings, the whole house comes to life. We spread out from one end to the other. The garage gets transformed with long white tables, chairs, and simple Easter decorations. If the weather cooperates, we’ll raise the doors and let the sunshine and breeze roll in—it almost feels like one big family picnic.

Some will gather around those tables, others will find a spot in the living room or out on the porch—but no matter where they sit, what I treasure most is simply having everyone together. The laughter, the conversations, the shared moments; those are the things that truly fill my heart.

And as much as I love the food and the fellowship, Easter is such a beautiful reminder that it’s about so much more. It’s about the incredible love and sacrifice of Jesus, and the hope we have because of His resurrection.

In the middle of all the busyness—the cooking, the hosting, the full house—I try to pause and take it in. To remember that every breath, every relationship, every moment gathered around the table is a gift from Him.

There’s just something special about celebrating Easter surrounded by family, sharing a meal, and quietly holding onto the deeper meaning of this day. It’s a time of renewal, of gratitude, and of hope that carries far beyond the holiday itself.

“Just as Christ was raised from the dead… we too may live a new life.” ✝️Romans 6:4
