The Kind of Life That Draws a Crowd

Yesterday, I attended the funeral of a dear family friend. She was 96 years old and had been a widow since her 40s—a life marked by both deep loss and enduring strength.
After the service, I spoke with a friend who had been asked to sing. He shared something that really stayed with me. When he was first invited, he was told it was for a 96-year-old and scheduled during the week. Based on past experience, he assumed attendance would be small, so no pressure. But when he arrived, he was stunned and actually started sweating.
The parking lot was completely full. People were lined up out the door. There wasn’t even enough room inside the church to seat everyone—not even close. Many came, paid their respects to the family, and quietly left before the service simply because there was no space.
And it wasn’t just a handful of close friends. It was people of all ages—young and old—many who had clearly taken time off work in the middle of the week just to be there.
That realization spoke volumes.
It told the story of a life well lived. A woman who loved deeply, gave freely, and made people feel seen and valued. She didn’t just pass through life—she left fingerprints on hearts everywhere she went. What a legacy!
It made me pause and reflect. Not on how long we live, but on how well we live. On the quiet, everyday ways we treat people. On the kindness we show, the encouragement we give, and the love we choose to extend—even in small moments.
Because in the end, that’s what fills a room.
Not accomplishments. Not titles. But love. And what a beautiful reminder that is.
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35
