Taking My Own Advice

This morning, while answering comments on my Facebook page, I came across one that wasn’t particularly kind. It was from another blogger, and for a moment, it got under my skin more than I care to admit.

The comment was about some of the AI-generated images I’ve been using recently on social media. The truth is, I have started recreating some recipe photos with AI, and there’s a practical reason for it. Social media platforms are constantly changing their algorithms, and they often favor fresh photos over older photos.

As bloggers, we’re always trying to figure out how to reach the people who have chosen to follow us, and sometimes that means finding new ways to share recipes that have been on the website for years.

What many people don’t see is the work that happens behind the scenes. Developing recipes, cooking, photographing, writing, editing, answering emails, creating videos, and keeping up with ever-changing technology can be exhausting.

Then there are the challenges facing bloggers today, from shrinking website traffic to search engines displaying our recipes and content directly in search results instead of sending readers to our websites, which is how we make our living.

Most days, I take these things in stride. But today, that comment hit at just the wrong moment.

As I sat thinking about it, I realized something. I spend a lot of time encouraging others to stay positive, keep going, and not let discouragement steal their joy. Yet here I was, needing to listen to my own advice.

Sometimes life has a way of reminding us that we’re not meant to carry every burden, frustration, or hurt feeling on our own. When the weight starts to feel heavy, it’s an invitation to step away from the noise and spend time with the One who knows exactly what we need.

So that’s my plan today.

I’ll be unplugging for a little while and heading out to the trails with Marley. Spending some time talking with my Great Counselor, who never grows tired of listening, never offers criticism without love, and always knows how to restore a weary heart.

The world can be noisy. People can be unkind. Circumstances can be discouraging. But God’s voice is steady through it all.

And sometimes the most productive thing we can do is pause long enough to hear it.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
