Busy Mornings, Peaceful Starts

I’m an early riser during the week. There’s always so much to be done, and most mornings I wake up on a mission—breakfast to make, my husband’s lunch to pack, animals to feed. Then it’s on to scheduling social media posts, checking emails, and diving right into the day.

I’m moving fast, checking boxes, getting things done. But after that first wave of responsibilities—about 30 minutes in—something shifts. The house is still quiet. It’s still dark outside. I’m the only one awake. And that’s when I finally sit down.

That’s when I have my quiet time. Prayer. Scripture reading. Just being still.

And the best way I can describe it is this. It’s like medicine. Like having an IV of healing and calm poured straight into my soul—slowly, gently washing away the stress, the worry, the pressure, and the busyness. It steadies me. It softens me. It brings a deep peace that I was missing just moments before.

It reminds me that before I start my full day, checking the boxes off my list, I need to be filled first.

Because the truth is, I can rush into my morning thinking I’m being productive, but if I skip that quiet time with God, I’m running on empty.

There’s a reason Scripture says, “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” — Psalm 5:3

Those few quiet moments in the stillness don’t just prepare me for the day—they change how I walk through it. Maybe it’s not about how quickly we start our day, but how intentionally we begin it.

And maybe the greatest strength we can carry into the busyness of life is the peace we receive when we sit still with Him first.
