Fall Is Coming

If I’m being honest, late summer is my least favorite time of the year.
Here in the Carolinas, with our high humidity, late July and all of August can feel like living in an oven. The thermometer says 96 degrees, but the “feels like” temperature is well over 100.
You guys know how much I love walking Marley and Gunner around our property and through the woods. This time of year, though, it’s just not comfortable—or as enjoyable. The air is so thick you almost feel like you have to swim through it, even in the mornings.
I’ve shared before that fall is my favorite season. Spring is beautiful too, but fall brings cooler temperatures without the pollen. So these days, every time I step outside into what we jokingly call “the air you wear,” I find myself repeating the same little phrase. “Fall is coming. Fall is coming.” It gives me something to look forward to.
The other day, it struck me that I do something similar in my walk with God.
There are seasons of life that feel heavy. Seasons when prayers seem to linger unanswered. Seasons of waiting, uncertainty, grief, or simply feeling worn out.
But God’s Word reminds us that those seasons aren’t permanent.
“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” —Psalm 30:5
Just as surely as August eventually gives way to cooler late September mornings, God is at work even when we can’t yet feel the change. We may not know exactly when relief will come, but we know the One who holds every season in His hands.
Maybe today you’re walking through a season that feels more like August than October. Don’t lose heart.
Keep trusting. Keep praying. Keep putting one foot in front of the other.
Because God is faithful, and in His perfect timing, your “fall is coming.”
Until then, keep your eyes on the One who never changes, even when everything around you feels hot, sticky, and uncomfortable.
