All Things Made New

We live out in the country on land that carries a lot of history—family history. My husband’s mom grew up right here when her family was sharecroppers in the 1930s, working this land in the cotton fields when she was just a little girl. She later married, eventually purchased the property, and raised her own family here. This land has seen a lot of life.
When she passed in 2020, my husband and I inherited the old farmhouse along with some of the land. What we thought might be a series of repairs quickly turned into something much bigger. With concrete floors and cinder block walls, there was simply no way to rewire or replumb the house safely. Patching things up wasn’t going to cut it. To move forward, we had to almost completely start over. See the renovation video here.
The footprint of the old house is still here. The history is still here. But the house itself? It’s essentially brand new.
That process has stayed with me because it feels like such a clear picture of what God promises us. Scripture tells us that one day, He will make all things new—the earth, our bodies, everything. Not a cosmetic fix. Not a few repairs here and there. A complete renewal.
And honestly, I’m so grateful for that. I’m thankful God isn’t planning a renovation of this broken world, but a full restoration. No more decay. No more patchwork solutions. Just new.
I long for that day. And the older I get, the more I feel it in my bones. But until then, we live in hope—knowing that every single day, we are one step closer.
“And he who was seated on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’” Revelation 21:5 (ESV)
