Crockpot Faith in a Microwave World

Patience is something I was not born with. Life over the decades would have been much easier if I had been. Sometimes my lack of patience actually works to my advantage—when I see something that needs to be done, I’m usually the first one up and moving. I’m a fixer by nature. But over the years, God has lovingly shown me that not everything in life can be fixed by effort, determination, or even good intentions.
There’s something in my own life I’ve been dealing with for many years now—something I cannot fix. Trust me, I’ve tried. I’ve prayed every way I know how. I’ve tried to “help God along,” only to learn that it doesn’t work that way. Some things are simply God-work, and my role is not to control the outcome, but to trust the process.
I’ve come to realize how often we live with a microwave faith when what’s required is crockpot faith. We want quick answers, fast healing, immediate clarity. But God often works slowly, deeply, and quietly. Just because He hasn’t fixed the problem yet doesn’t mean He isn’t working on it. Sometimes, silence is the sound of God working. He is doing things in the unseen that we cannot rush or replicate.
While we wait, something important is happening—not just around us, but within us. Waiting has a way of revealing what we truly believe. Are we anxious? Frustrated? Angry? Or are we learning to rest, obey, and trust even when the outcome isn’t visible yet? Others are watching how we wait, and God may be shaping our faith not only for our own growth, but as encouragement for someone else.
So if you’re waiting on an answer to prayer—maybe for months, or even years—you’re not alone. Sometimes the most faithful thing we can do is keep walking in obedience and trust God with the timing. Crockpot faith isn’t easy, but it produces something rich, steady, and lasting. And in God’s hands, nothing is ever wasted—not even the waiting.
“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” (Psalm 27:14)
