What My Crocs Reminded Me About Life

Recently, I had to order a new pair of Crocs. I don’t know about y’all, but I wear mine constantly around the house, doing yard work, and sometimes when I’m out running errands too.
The other day, I looked down at my new navy blue Crocs and honestly had to laugh. I have never once looked at Crocs and thought, “Wow, those are beautiful shoes.” In fact, the very first time I ever saw a pair was on my brother-in-law’s feet years ago, and I thought they were absolutely horrid. 😂
But here’s the thing—they weren’t created to be stylish or impressive. They were made to be functional. Comfortable. Easy. Practical. Waterproof. And somehow, despite their lack of beauty, they became wildly successful because they serve a purpose so well.
It made me think about how easy it is for all of us to get caught up in appearances and worry about how we’re perceived by other people. Meanwhile, some of the most valuable things in life are often the simplest and least flashy.
Honestly, I think there’s something really beautiful about being useful.
Being the person who quietly shows up. Who encourages someone. Who helps without needing recognition. Who makes life a little lighter or easier for the people around them. Those moments may seem small, but they matter so much.
I also couldn’t help but think about how often God works through ordinary people and ordinary moments. Not perfect people. Not people who have it all together. Just willing hearts.
Maybe that’s part of what makes life meaningful—not trying to impress everyone around us, but simply being available to love, encourage, help, and serve in whatever ways we can.
Crocs may never win any beauty contests, but they do exactly what they were created to do, and people love them for it. There’s probably a little lesson in that for all of us.
At the end of the day, I think there’s something deeply fulfilling about living a life that quietly brings comfort, goodness, encouragement, and usefulness to others.
“People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 📖 1 Samuel 16:7
